Zara November 2010 Lookbook – Evening Collection

Ok, so even though I am on a strict self-imposed no-purchases-until-after-Christmas shopping ban, I couldn’t help but long for a few of the items in this Zara Evening Collection lookbook. Namely the red shift and the lovely rosette dress.

Though with my luck (or lack thereof), both items will probably be sold out by the time I venture out to the store. But if you’re still looking for something fun to wear this Holiday season, perhaps Zara is worth checking out this month? What do you think?

One of a Kind Christmas Show 2010

I have a confession to make – up until last weekend, I’ve never been to the One of a Kind Show. Ever. If like me, you have yet to visit the lovely local artisan booths, don’t walk…run to their Christmas show and sale at the Direct Energy Centre this week. There’s definitely something for everyone: Christmas gifts, handmade postcards, unique jewelry, clothes, and accessories, home decor items, and so much more!

I was really impressed by it all! And since a picture is worth a thousand words – here are a few of the artisans that really stood out. Make sure to stop by their booths and say hi (and perhaps buy something one of a kind).

Toodlebunny by Trudy Wynans (Booth S-48)

Lovely earrings, gorgeous handmade necklaces – different and original. Loved it all.

Marmalade by Kate Singer (Booth R-52)

Russian dolls, flowers, and anchors…oh my! Kate Singer is a woman after my own heart with her adorably whimsical Toronto-made/handmade jewelry! I got the Matryoshka pendant, and am still lusting after the anchor/heart bracelet.

Avril Loretti (Booth L-21)

Hockey-printed totes, mustache-printed hankies, and lovely tea towels all would make perfect stocking stuffers this Christmas. And the fact that they are Toronto-made? Even better.

Mally Designs (Booth B-32)

For the little ones on your shopping list, these reversible leather bibs with magnetic clasp are guaranteed not to stain, and come in a variety of super cute designs. You can also ask for a customized version, selecting your own color, print, and adding a child’s name to the bib pocket.

Laura Kapp (Booth T-10)

Fab Siwash sweaters for the coldest of winters.

Hoi Bo (Booth S-19)

As soon as I caught a glimpse of a beautiful leather jacket, I knew that the Hoi Bo booth would be something special. And it really was. Shapes, textures, and structural detailing are all very intriguing in most Hoi Boi garments – bags, dresses, accessories. There were so many things I liked in that booth, I could’ve spent days oggling them. Perhaps a trip to their Distillery District store is in my near future.

SK Art (Booth N-34)

SK Art is another booth worth visiting, if you have a little one to shop for. Absolutely loved their original Robot artwork. Got the blue one to frame and give to my cousin, so that my nephew can have something lovely (and unique) hanging in his bedroom. Oh, and they also make beautiful postcards too!

Pook

These sock-toques seem to be pretty popular. And though I wouldn’t want one in my stocking, I do think these Pook hats (judging by le boyfriend’s ecstatic reaction) would make a good gift for the little ones…or a hockey fan in your life, as the toques also come in your team’s signature colors. Oh, and they are also reversible.

As for the last two photos…Unfortunately, I have lost their business cards…boohoo! But if you check out this year’s One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale, I am certain you’ll be able to find something to tickle your fancy…and make this year’s Christmas shopping a lot more fun! Let me know if you end up buying anything. Would love to hear about your OOKS experiences!

One of a Kind Show runs from November 25th – December 5th at the Direct Energy Centre.

Style Shop: Brand New Miu Miu Red Heart Coin Purse

So it’s finally here!!! A while back, I’ve decided to start my own shop on Style Blog, to get rid of some items in my closet – some pre-loved, and others absolutely brand new. Items will be posted on this site first, and will be listed on eBay if they don’t sell through the blog. All items will be “first come, first served”. You can ask me questions in the comments or via email. I’ll still be tweaking the layout here and there…but until then - here’s the first item in my shop!

Guaranteed authentic, brand new, with tags Miu Miu Heart Coin Purse. I bought it at Space Montevarchi this past summer, and still have the receipt. Have never used it, so it’s brand spanking new. The leather is patent and is in perfect condition. Hardware is engraved. Your purchase will include a black velvet Prada dust bag (standard to Space outlets).

Designer: Miu Miu
Colour: Bright Red

Buy it now: $150 Canadian

Shipping: $20 (worldwide), free pickup within Toronto available

What I Wore: Sasquatch Bear

Wore this fuzzy sweater to the One of a Kind Show and to watch Tangled on Sunday. Got stopped by practically every woman I met, because they all wanted to touch me. No, not like that…it’s just that a lot of them thought that I looked like a giant teddy bear – soft and huggable. Le boyfriend on the other hand, thought that I looked more like a Chewbacca or a Sasquatch. Pot-ay-to, Pot-ah-to. Man repelling to the extreme, but still huggable? I’ll take it.

On the practical side, though, I loved wearing a maxi dress (with leggings underneath) and a cozy sweater this Sunday - it turned out to be a warm and comfortable outfit, with some style points deducted while wearing a coat on top…which made me look like a nun. A nun with super red lips, nonetheless.

How was your weekend? Share in the comments, lovelies!

I Wore: Dress – Forever21; Sweater, Sunglasses – H&M; Boots – Zara; Belt – Moschino (The Room); Backpack – Chanel

Old Navy Spring 2011 Preview

Earlier this month, the lovelies over at Old Navy Canada invited me to their Spring 2011 collection preview. What a perfect way to (temporarily) forget about the impending doom winter, and daydream about the time when temperatures will be climbing up, instead of down.

There were lots of pretty, summery pieces, including the lovely yellow skirt, some printed tops, and (my personal fave) striped bikinis! Everything you might need for a beachy getaway and more! And since most of these clothes will start appearing at your neighbourhood Old Navy sometime in January, it’s absolutely perfect for those that tend to take their Cuba/Dominican/Mexico vacations smack dab in the middle of winter (aka me).

I’ve professed my love of Old Navy bikinis many times before (great quality+price ratio), and this time, I already know which ones I will be picking up this winter!

Other standouts included on-trend skinny cargos (in summery white), some pretty sweet brown boots, and a variety of short-shorts. So if you find yourself looking for something to cheer you up in the middle of January, make sure to stop by Old Navy for a hit of sping in the winter!

Wishlist: Dior Rings

“I want Lanvin, not diamonds” – said the pouty-mouthed Natasha Poly in the Lanvin for H&M promo video. Well, now that I do have Lanvin (for H&M), I also want the diamonds. Ok, not the really flashy diamonds – I’m no golddiger – but the super cute ones, adorning these lovely Dior rings. How cute are they??? I know this isn’t news, as these rings have been around for quite some time now, but for some reason I am really loving them right now. Oui Oui, Mon Chéri!

What I Wore: Girls’ Night Out

Wore this to dinner with my girlfriends last Friday. We went to Osteria Ciceri e Tria and ended up having a blast of a time, catching up on gossip, latest adventures and holiday plans. Haven’t hung out with my besties in a while now. I mean, sure, we’ve gotten together for lunches and shopping sprees, but not like that, not all-together at a dinner table, dolled up and not having to rush-rush-rush…not in a while now.

The holidays are almost here, there’s only one more month left until Christmas, and then it’ll be all turkey, champers and mistletoe…and of course, family, friends, and loved ones. It’s my favorite time of the year! And also, the time of the year, I tend to slow down on blogging, working, and running around…trying to focus on the small things that make me happy instead. My top three (apart from hanging out with my loved ones) are: mushy holiday films (Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary), baking cookies and brownies, and wrapping Christmas presents. What are yours?

What I Wore: Dress, Faux Fur Collar, Tights, Wide Belt – H&M; Cardigan – Forever21; Bag – Prada; Belt – Moschino; Shoes – D&G; Earrings – Chanel

Wednesday Candy: Clive Owen

Last week, le boyfriend and I were at H&M and I picked out a few items for him to try on. One of said items was a lovely black velvet blazer. He looked fantastic in it, better than I had expected, yet still he dismissed the garment, as if I was proposing that he wear a purple crushed velvet Juicy Couture track suit.

Fast forward to this week, and here’s my fave dreamboat Clive Owen in a similar velvet blazer. Coincidence? I think not! Perhaps Clive is trying to tell me something.

Help me out, ladies and gents…What do you think about a velvet injection into a man’s wardrobe? Do you subscribe to  George Costanza’s way of thinking, or should velvet be banned for upholstery use only?

Holidays 2010: Cool Guy Gift Ideas

For some awful reason, gift-buying for le boyfriend is particularly difficult this year. I don’t know if it’s due to the lack of paying attention on my part, or due to his lack of wanting things. I’m guessing it’s the former.

If you’re unsure, uninspired, and completely don’t know what to get your special someone this Christmas, check out a few gifts I’ve given in the past, and would consider giving in the future. Once again, prices range from $29.95 to $450, to fit various budgets.

Oh, and if you don’t find what you’re looking for here, check out Holidays 2009, and Valentine’s Day gift guydes. Any other suggestions? Please feel free to let me know in the comments…I am still not done shopping!

1. Old Navy Fair Isle Cardigan $54.50 (Old Navy)

2. Marc Jacobs BANG $69 (The Bay)

3. Burton Snowboard from $450 (Burton)

4. Nokia N8 Cell Phone $79.99 with 3-year plan (Rogers)

5. Danier Weekender Bag $199 (Danier)

6. Philips SensoTouch 3D Shaver $139-$329 (The Bay)

7. Converse Jimi Hendrix Sneakers $120 (Converse)

8. Lanvin for H&M Bow Tie $29.95 (H&M)

What I Wore: Lanvin for H&M

This is me, around 8:30 am on a Saturday (which is unheard of), happy as a hippo to have been able to snatch up the things I wanted from the Lanvin x H&M collection. Got the dresses I loved, the necklace, the totes, and a couple of other things. I was really, really lucky at the Yorkdale location - most things were gone in less than 30 minutes!

Shopping was done in an actual cage! Can you believe it? Cage shopping in 15 minutes: grab, pull, yank, grab, yell…No, it wasn’t too horrible. No one got slapped nor stabbed in Toronto, as opposed to the rumour that 3 people were hurt in a Lanvin dispute in New York. We were all pretty civilized, considering the circumstances. Sales associates were extremely attentive – helping find sizes, boxes, etc…all while being super pleasant…perhaps they felt bad for all the shopaholics in line.

As a reward for our patience, dresses were wrapped in beautiful garment bags, shoe bags were given for shoes, and credit cards were maxed out all around. Seeing my total on the cash register display made me feel slightly faint, but the 30 day return policy calmed my nerves (a bit).

The collab was a mad success, and some were even wondering whether Lanvin would do a second collab with the fast-fashion giant. Only time will tell. For now, I have to make sure that I coordinate my holiday outfits, as to avoid wearing the same things my friends are wearing. Lanvin or not, being dress-twins is so not cool.

PS. If you haven’t gotten a piece of Lanvin x H&M and are still holding out hope for a dress or two, items off the mannequins will be sold today. So make sure to stop by your nearest store.

I Wore: Cardigan – Billabong; Leggings – Target; Tank Top – Forever21; Boots – Zara; Bag – Prada; Belt – Moschino

Wishlist: Lanvin x H&M UNICEF Tote

If ever there was an item that did good while looking oh-so-good – this Lanvin x H&M UNICEF tote would fit the bill perfectly! It’s yet another item from the (SUPER) highly-anticipated collab that is now firmly on my “To Buy” list. 30% of the tote’s price will be donated to UNICEF, as part of the All for Children campaign. And though I don’t know the price of this item at the moment, I am certain that it will cost much less than the regular Lanvin canvas totes, that can set you back up to $1200!

Good luck tomorrow…and perhaps I’ll see you on the battlefield in the store?

UPDATE: These totes are $4.95, in case you were wondering.

Holidays 2010: Clinique Beauty Essentials

Tis the season to be jolly! But all the fa-la-la-la-la-ing aside, the partying, unhealthy eating, and not enough sleep that come along with the holidays, can wreak havoc on one’s skin. Which is why we asked a Clinique skincare specialist to give us her top three “holiday survival” must-haves.

1. Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief ($57.50) is perfect for any skin type.  It’s an oil-free, multi purpose cream gel that quickly delivers long-lasting hydration. Moisture Surge provides immediate and long-term hydration boost, perfect for the cold winter weather (as well as post-champagne skin relief).  It hydrates the skin correctly so make up goes on flawlessly.

2. 7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse-Off Formula ($22) is a water-rinsable, manual exfoliator in a lightweight cream base.  Suitable for any skin type.  For dry to combination skin, it polishes and refines skin’s texture,  allowing for make-up to wear better.  For oily skin types, it refines texture, leaves skin clearer, dislodges impurities to help control breakouts, while allowing for smoother makeup application.  This scrub brings out the radiance within, and who doesn’t want glowing, healthy-looking skin for the holidays?

3. Pretty Day Into Night Looks Makeup Set ($43) includes such necessities as eye and blush palette, High Impact mascara, Different Lipstick/Long Glosswear, Cream Shaper for eyes, as well as a full-sized tube of All About Eyes cream. Everything you need to look your best at the office and the office party is right there in the kit, all for a fraction of the price (value of $111).

And if that wasn’t enough, The Bay Yorkdale will hold its Showtime holiday gala on November 27th (12-9pm). Tickets are $10, with $8 that can be spent on any beauty product in the store, and $2 going towards the Look Good Feel Better foundation, which helps women whose appearance had been affected by cancer, learn how to look and feel a little more like themselves again.

Clinique will also offer a free 5 piece gift set with any purchase of $50 or more, and an additional silver tote bag with a purchase of $75 or more (perfect for stocking stuffers!). Couple that with food, drinks, and beauty tips, and you’ve got yourself a party to remember! See you there?
