Friday Faux Pas: Tavi’s Bow

To some, even the thought of a 13-year old in front row of a Dior couture show is already blasphemous. But to have to watch a show from second row through Tavi’s “pesky hat”, must’ve been mighty annoying. What are your thoughts on this? Is it wrong to wear an obstructive hat in front row, or is she entitled to wear whatever she feels is right?

What I’m Wearing: Orange You Glad?

Don’t usually feel this way, but I felt decidedly girlie the other day. Hence the floral skirt, pearl earrings, and bow necklace. I love playing dress-up in my closet once in a while. It used to be way more often (like a few times a day), but now…with all work and no play, dress-up takes a back seat. Which is kinda sad.

Oh, and I bought yet another Breton-striped shirt. I think this is officially a full-blown obsession…I have over 10 very similar striped tops (cropped, tank, tee, long sleeve, long sleeve dress, 3/4 sleeve, and a few others)…and I still have an eye on one more at H&M. Do I need an intervention?

To Buy or Not To Buy: Miss Marc Edition

So on my latest Holt Renfrew jaunt, something impossibly adorable caught my eye! A Miss Marc by Marc Jacobs t-shirt, featuring the oftentimes grumpy cartoon character with her boyfriend (?) sitting on a ski lift in full ski gear. Super cute for any fashionable ski/snowboard addict out there, right? But this being Marc by Marc Jacobs, the t-shirt cost $65! Now the question is this…worth it or not so much?

I left the store empty-handed that time, persuaded by my friends that dropping that much money on a cartooney t-shirt (however adorable) was not a smart thing to do. But now, a week later and with a snowboarding trip coming up, I find myself still thinking about my little grumpy Miss Marc. Can’t find an actual photo of that t-shirt, but the photo above should give you an idea. So what say you, lovely readers? Yay or nay?

Update: And here’s the reason why I couldn’t find a photo online for a bit…Mr. and Miss. Marc Ski Lift Tee launched exclusively at Holt Renfrew as the new limited-edition Miss Marc Hearts Canada issue. The Canadian in me says…go get it!

SAG Awards Favorites

I know that I’m a bit late on this one…but I couldn’t avoid posting about my fave SAG Awards dresses! Especially, considering the beautiful Jason Wu gown that Diane Kruger wore! Apparently, the model-turned-actress helped Wu design her marigold frock. It does remind me of that Michelle Willams dress from the Oscars, but I still love it oh-so-much! Paired with that make-up, and beautiful jewelry, I think Diane is definitely my choice for best-dressed! My list also includes Kate Hudson, in another Oscar doppelganger (remember Hillary Swank’s bum-plunging dress?), Marion Cotillard, and Sookie Anna Paquin, in a daring and very au-courant McQueen dress. Love these ladies and their choices! Didn’t do a Globes post, because most dresses were snoozefest (at least for me). SAGs, however, did not disappoint!

Are you looking forward to the Oscars’ fashion face-off? I know, I am!

Stamped?

Ok, I love Chanel! Mostly the little tweed blazers that I’ll probably never own in a million years, or the classic quilted purses that I will own in less than a million years. I love Chanel’s infamous interlocking CC’s and have been a Chanel lover for many years now. But stamping my forehead with their logo? Definitely would not do that. Now this is just an art project, which I have to admit, is quite creative…but I honestly think that there is an actual market for such a thing. Branding just took on a whole other meaning.

Would you get your forehead stamped with Chanel’s or any other brand’s logo?

Hermès, McQueen, and G-Star…Oh, My!

Spring 2010 ads have been steadily pouring in for over a month now, and in the midst of even mild winter, here in Toronto, it’s quite nice to look at the beautiful Spring collections and dream of what’s ahead! Karlie Kloss’ stint for Hermès is one of my favorites – those scarves, that hair, the locale. Such a dreamy paradise shot!

And then there’s Raquel Zimmermann for Alexander McQueen. What a brave girl! The collection, which was full of reptile prints on the runway, translates quite well into the printed ads, featuring the slithery, yet beautiful creatures, and of course, Raquel wrapped up in their cold-blooded embrace. Now that’s what I call professionalism. Because if those snakes were slithering anywhere near me…don’t even want to imagine! Though I must admit, the McQueen ad is definitely one of the more eye-catching and stunning photographs I’ve seen lately!

Which one of the Spring ads is your favorite?

Style Fille: Victoria Beckham

I’m not usually a big fan of Posh’s dressing, but in this case, I’m loving it. Not that Victoria chose something edgy or different or even interesting…no, that’s not it. What caught my eye here is her lovely Burberry Prorsum trench! It’s such a versatile piece and it’s soooo chic! Want, need, got to have!

But her best accessory in this pic is certainly Becks!

Friday Faux Pas: Heidi Montag

Did not want to contribute to the Heidi “Plastic” Montag media frenzy, but it’s a perfect Friday Faux Pas to close out the week. Is Heidi on her way to looking more and more like a 40-year old cougar, than a 23-year old young woman? If you ask me, I think it won’t take long till Montag looks like her almost-doppelganger Shauna Sands. The resemblance is already quite uncanny. Way to go, Heidi. Way to mess up your face, body, mind, and any shreds of dignity that you had left.

All The Single Models

Eat your heart out, Pete Doherty, Kate Moss is now officially (allegedly) off the market! Kate and her boyfriend of 2+ years Count Von Count Jamie Hince are reported to have gotten engaged in Mustique on her 36th birthday. And if that wasn’t enough happy news in the world of top models, Lara Stone, too, got engaged to actor/comedian David Walliams, after dating him for only 4 months! And while I’m quite skeptical about the length of their courtship, as well as their age difference (almost 15 years), best of luck to them anyway. Can’t wait to see their wedding gowns!

ScarJo for Mango SS2010

New pics of Scarlett Johansson landed in my inbox this morning, and I am not disappointed with this campaign. Not in the very least. Granted, we only get to see two looks from the collection so far, but the Celine-like trench-dress alone is totally worth a Mango trip! Thoughts?

Foodie: McMacaron?

Ok, so this is apparently old news now, but even French fast food places are infinitely more chic than the ones in Canada! McDonald’s restaurants in France (at least since September) are selling macarons at their fast-food locations! And not just any old macarons, their supplier is The Holder – Ladurée’s owner (and if you are a macaron lover and haven’t tried a Ladurée macaron yet - shame on you!). What I don’t understand, however, is why, oh why would anyone head to a McD for a macaron, when the country is chock-full of delicious patisseries. Still though…the ads are tres cute!

Wednesday Candy: Matthew Goode

Leap Year sounds just like another cliché romcom. But once I caught a glimpse of the leading man, my interest in seeing it doubled. I first fell in like with Matthew Goode after watching Match Point, where he played a hot tall good-looking guy. Great portrayal indeed! His role in Watchmen did not induce a full-blown crush, only because he was way too skinny and blonde (!). But his appearance in this new movie, am all over it! Tall, dark, and scruffy. My cup of tea times one hundred. It’s been a while since I actually felt the pang of a new celebrity crush…and I think Matthew Goode just changed that.

What I’m Wearing: Black and White and Words All Over

I don’t think I was supposed to wear this dress to work, but thanks to the lenient office environment, I was able to pull it off without raising too many eyebrows. Have been very much into the monochromatic looks lately. Greys, whites, blacks are my friends…Maybe it’s the Toronto weather? Spring collections bring a promise of some color and fun shapes…and much needed warmth. Just in case you were wondering, I wore boots with the dress and leggings originally, but switched to pumps indoors. I am not crazy enough to walk around boots-less in the winter!

All Dolled Up

Love these dolls so much! I want them all! There’s Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Gareth Pugh, Proenza Schouler…and more! If I had a daughter, I would definitely want her to have one of these Kouklitas (which seems like a Spanish-ified version of the Russian word for doll – Koukla). I can’t decide on my favorite here. They are all so cute! A little creepy too (they remind me of those 3D paintings by Phoebe from Friends, remember those?)…but still more cute than creepy! Which one is your fave?
