Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, my dearest readers! Hope 2010 brings you all that you wish for! Hope you are spending tonight with the people that matter, and doing things that you love! Have fun and be safe, wherever you are! Thank you for your comments and emails! See you next year!

Wednesday Candy: Jake Sully

Ok, so it’s not Jake Sully aka Sam Worthington, it’s Jake Sully – the Na’vi alien. I have a thing for a blue cat-like alien. Don’t judge, he is very hot in the movie. Tall, lanky, muscular, blue…Have you seen Avatar yet?

Style Fille of 2009: Diane Kruger

I promised that I wouldn’t do one of those “Best and Worst of 2009″ posts, but I just cannot resist announcing Style Blog’s favorite Style Fille – Diane Kruger! I love her style on her days off, I love her style on the red carpet, I love her style walking around with her lovely boyfriend…I just find it…effortless, which to me, means a whole lot more than put together, flawless, or whatever else. Kruger and Jackson are also my favorite Holly-couple of the year (the way he looks at her…ooh la la!), and Diane was in one of my favorite movies of the year too – The Inglourious Basterds. Safe to say, she had one fabulous year! And to commemorate that, here is a walk down a memory lane in my fave photos of Diane and Joshua.

Boxing for Shoes

So Christmas came and went, and so did Boxing day, and I didn’t really buy anything. I simply refused to fight for things in stores, when I could just shop from the comfort of my own couch. So when I said I didn’t buy anything, I meant, not physically. I ordered three new pairs of Aldo shoes at extra 30% off online and am waiting (impatiently) to receive the two pairs (Gaser and Stinehelfer below). Alamin (above, and my favorite of the three) was unfortunately cancelled due to…? Not sure. Le sigh. I’ve been pretty obsessed with Aldo’s website lately. So many shoes that I would love to have. And with their low prices, it’s a real threat to my wallet. These are my current faves. Want to have that Alamin pair so badly! Why, oh why, did you have to be sold out, Aldo? Why my order? Why??? Anyway, hope your shopping day went better than mine.

Gaser, currently $69.99

Stinehelfer, currently $38.49

Roessner, currently $41.99

Love these leopard booties so much! But le boyfriend would surely chuck them out of the window if I ever bought these!

Guerrette, currently $59.49

Orellana, currently $76.99

Zabrocki, currently $76.99

Mickolick, currently $52.49

Hession, currently $55.99

Melkonian, currently $69.99

Elfering, currently $62.99

Happy Holidays from Clive and I!

elf2

It’s finally here! December 24th! After months and months of preparation, I am finally done Christmas shopping, decorating, baking, cooking, and all that jazz. Am now allowed to sit back and enjoy the holidays. Well, sort of, since I still have to work today…but starting tomorrow, I am officially on a mini-vacation!

I hope you all are having an amazing holiday season, full of wonderful moments shared with loved ones. Hope your gifts are everything you wished for (or at least include a gift receipt)! And hope that this Christmas/Hanukkah/whatever brings you only happiness and no (or very little) stress! Thank you all for reading! And Happy Holidays!

PS. If you are braving the malls on Boxing Day…first of all, you are a very courageous person, and second of all…good luck!

Style Fille: Chloë Sevigny

So I will probably get a lot of flack for this one from the guys, but to me, this outfit is amazingness! I adore Chloë’s ability to pull anything and everything off with such ease and confidence. On me, for example, those pants would look like pajamas from hell, but on Chloë they are styling perfection. What do you think? Love or not so much?

What I’m Wearing: Hello, Stud

Who doesn’t love a sale? I sure do! Once the pieces that I’ve wanted for a while and didn’t allow myself to buy go on sale, the regular rules of Shopoholics Anonymous do not apply. Common sense, really.

Got these great, comfy skinny black jeans with studded pockets at H&M and I am loving them! The waist is slightly higher than I am used to, but in the winter I am not about to bear my stomach anyways, so it works. And as you can see, I’ve been addicted to my H&M circular scarf too. It’s the perfect cozy winter accessory. And lately, I am all about the cozy.

I’m wearing: Scarf, Denim Shirt, Jeans – H&M; Necklace, Shirt – Forever 21; Boots – Guess; Purse – Miu Miu

Size Doesn’t Matter

Or does it? V Magazine’s photoshoot, featuring a plus-size model Crystal Renn head to head with a skinnier colleague Jacquelyn Jablonski wearing exact same outfits is trying to tell us that it doesn’t. But with various immature comments, criticizing Renn, or even calling Jablonski, who is 5′9″ and measures 32/24/34, ”curvy”, it is painfully clear that this industry is not size-blind.

Having said that, a major magazine, showcasing beautiful and healthy girls wearing non-sample sizes, including a shoot photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, who has once famously proclaimed that “no one wants to see curvy women”, is perhaps yet another small step in the right direction. Until then, we have these gorgeous photos of Crystal to prove, that beauty surely does come in all sizes and shapes.

Holidays 2009: Banned Christmas Gifts

Who hasn’t received a bad Christmas gift? From bad wine to useless tools to bad chocolates, most of us have seen it all! So when I saw Style List’s guide to banned gifts (ones that will surely be re-gifted or forgotten or land you in a doghouse), I knew that I had to share it with you! The list is dead-on, and the alternatives offered are definitely much better substitutes to things like Fruit Cake (though Bacon Jam will never make it on my list). So if you still have some shopping to do, read on, and whatever you do, remember that, as cliché as it sounds, the worst gift you can possibly give is one without any thought put into it.

Wa-Wa-We-Wang!

As it appears, messy hair, fuzzy and jersey sweaters, simple make-up, and Vogue meets PE class styling makes for an awesome “inspiration shoot”. Next time I roll out of bed and go to work without brushing my hair, I’ll be blaming Alexander Wang and his bevy of beauties.

Organic Style: Furry Cardigan

Jo and I are like two long-lost sisters that were separated at birth. Somehow, whatever Jo buys I already have and vice versa. We think alike when it comes to clothes and accessories, which makes it fun for those around us…plus those jerks get to make fun of us when we dress like twins (unintentionally).

Last Friday, Jo wore a furry cardigan that she picked up on her wedding trip to Hong Kong, and it sort of looks like the fuzzy dress I’ve wanted from H&M, which I bought the same day on sale! Needless to say, I loved it at first sight! Coupled with awesome jewelry (peep golden teeth on her ears), minty green nails, and her brand new Frye boots…it was an outfit made in eclectic heaven! Thanks for being an inspiration, Jo!

What I’m Wearing: These Boots Were Made For Kicking

If you haven’t been to Aldo Liquidation store on Yonge St. in a while, I seriously urge you to check it out! There are amazing deals to be had. Like my new kicking boots. Ok, fine, they aren’t really kicking boots, but I can imagine myself saving a granny from a purse snatcher, chasing the bad guy down and kicking him with my beautiful new boots, that I got for a fraction of the original price. Smart and kick-ass!

When I bought these, I didn’t think that they’d be too comfortable, seeing how they are 5000 inches tall. But to my surprise, I felt great walking in them…bouncy even! I think it’s due to the thick-ish rubber soles. It’s like tires for feet! Needless to say, Sunday brunch at Cora’s was a huge success…all thanks to my new boots!

I’m Wearing: Shrug – Zara; T-shirt – Hanes, stolen from le boyfriend; Shorts – Forever21; Scarf – H&M; Leggings – TNA; Boots – Aldo; Purse – Miu Miu

Zara Lookbook December 2009

zara-dec09-lookbook-15

I am really loving this “lookbook of the month” thing that Zara has going on. Different model each month, new arrivals, great styling…it’s all there. All you need is to sit back and enjoy the show clothes. My December favorites are: the striped top above, the one-shouldered dress, and the nude blouse (below). Will have to stop by Zara today, to see if any of these are already in stores. Are you liking December’s offerings?

Not Another Fat Model

larastonelv2

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve gained some (20lbs) weight recently, but it really irks me when people throw around the “F” word (as in fat) at girls that are size 4 at the most. First Gemma Ward, and now Lara Stone? Lara’s story is in January’s Vogue, and gives us a rare glimpse into the not-so-pretty side of modeling.

Still, it’s not easy being a four in a land of zeros. We don’t tend to talk much about models’ inner lives. It seems enough that they are enviably thin, impossibly beautiful, and paid gobs of money to stand around in gorgeous clothes, but it can be hard on a young girl’s psyche to constantly hear how different you are. “It’s depressing when the clothes don’t fit and you are always the odd one out,” says Stone. Wearing black Azzedine Alaïa boots, a Balenciaga miniskirt, and a Chanel necklace, Stone looks every inch a supermodel at the peak of her career, but her size remains an issue. “I was on a shoot just last week,” she says. “And the stylist took out this tight corset dress and said, ‘Here, put it on,’ and I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ There was no way, so that was very rude of her. It’s like, come on, she’s a woman; whether you’re buying jeans at the mall or wearing couture, you know what it’s like for clothes not to fit. It’s not an easy kind of rejection, because it’s very personal. It’s you, your body. You take it to heart.”

Here’s hoping that more designers and stylists will take note of Lara Stone’s phenomenal success, and ensure that the girls that are walking down their runways and starring in their ads are not only beautiful, but also healthy. Though that might take a while.
