Friday Faux Pas: People Calling Gemma Ward Fat

gemma ward5

Ok, so titles for the Faux Pas section keep getting longer and longer, but I just couldn’t sit back on this one. So Gemma Ward decided to stay away from modelling for a while, and when new photos of the former supermodel re-surfaced, people all over the world made a huge point of calling her “fat” and “plus-size”. Now, I am not going to be a hypocrite and tell you that I don’t understand that modelling standards are not the same as “regular people” standards, but Gemma, there’s no way she’d qualify as a plus-size model, and she is absolutely not fat! And when someone like her gets the “fat” label, it goes to show that industry standards are the ones that are seriously messed up! That said, with more and more designers banning stick-insect models on their runways, there’s hope that one day, gorgeous and healthy girls like Gemma Ward will be considered normal, and not “bigger” by the fashion industry.

Actually, I wish Gemma WOULD become a plus-size model! I’ve always been a fan of fuller-figured models! There’s a great site with many images of plus-size models here:

    They’re all gorgeous.

The site’s forum also has thought-provoking discussions about body image and the media.
