Jessica Stam for H&M

stam fall 2009

Ok, if you’ve been wondering about all of the H&M posts lately, I am not being paid by H&M to advertise their products, otherwise it would’ve been disclosed on the site as per the new regulations. I do, however, admit to being slightly addicted to the store, and simply couldn’t pass up this opportunity to share the news with you!

H&M released the new Fall 2009 ad campaign photos, this time starring a fellow Canadian – Jessica Stam. Nothing too exciting, though she is wearing the jacket that I tried on and loved last week…but that’s about it for me. Are you excited about any of the clothes featured?

Jimmy Choo X H&M Ads Are Here!

jimmy choo2

Remember that Sex and The City episode when Carrie missed the last ferry to Manhattan because she lost her “Choo”? Well, November 14th the H&M versions of the famous shoes will be available in select stores. As I’ve mentioned before, I am a little underwhelmed by the previews of the collection, but then again, I’ll need to see it in stores to decide whether any of the pieces are worthy of the precious space in my already overcrowded closet. So far, I really like the Grecian-looking leather dress that Tamara Mellon is wearing, as well as the thigh-high leather boots. But purchasing those will definitely depend on the fit. What about you? Are you counting down the days until you can get your hands on a pair of Jimmy Choos for H&M or do you think that the collection is overrated?

Style Fille: Kate Bosworth

bosworth

I must admit, that when Kate Bosworth dated Orlando Bloom, I was not her biggest fan. But as far as fashion goes, I’ve always admired her style! She never seems overdone, choosing to wear simple cuts, yet still manages to look edgy and original. And while she’s been keeping a lower profile lately, her recent outing proves that Kate has still got it! Love her outfit! Nude dress, leopard print booties, and a chain bag. Effortless, no? Me likey!

Shopping: H&M October 2009

hm13

A few of you emailed me asking for more H&M posts, featuring items currently in stores. And since I love my readers, and I love H&M, here are some pics from my latest shopping trip!

This time around, I found so many cute items, that it was super tough for me to stick to my self-imposed rule of only buying one thing (after the last weekend Buffalo trip). When I was at the Eaton Centre H&M last week, I spotted a few very pretty holiday dresses on their top floor, and really regretted not taking any photos, because this week they were all gone! Bummer! Though there were plenty of other awesome clothes to share with you! Enjoy!

hm2

Absolutely love the chain detailing and the shoulder pads on this super-simple cotton dress! And for only $40, it’s a crime not to buy it!

hm

hm6

Love this top so much! Zara has a similar style, but in poplin-ish fabric. Like this one better, because it’s stretchy!

hm3

Another favorite! Comes in grey also, but I couldn’t find any left. Love the military detailing.

hm10

Not Jimmy Choos yet, but H&M has a few awesome pairs of boots available now.

Christian Louboutin for Barbie!

barbie8

Ok, so I am not loving what Christian Louboutin said about Barbie’s “fat ankles”, but I love the idea of the Louboutin designed collection of shoes for the doll! According to WWD, the collection consists of three dolls packaged in Louboutin shoe boxes, that come with four pairs of Barbie-size Louboutin heels. The three dolls will be released separately, the first to release in December, is the jewel thief-themed Barbie; in February, a safari-themed Barbie, and for May, Louboutin designed a Barbie that goes to the Cannes Film Festival. The dolls retail for $150 each and will be sold at BarbieCollector.com and at Net-a-porter.com, and in September, both sites also will offer a Christian Louboutin Barbie shoe collection of 12 pairs for $40 a set.

I haven’t played with Barbies for many years now, but I really like the jewel-thief Barbie. Plus, it looks like Louboutin had a great time at this shoot. Creative, no? And as a little spoiler, just wanted to let you guys know that this is not the last you’ll hear about Barbies on this site! Something exciting is happening tomorrow! Stay tuned!

SATC2 Style: Why?

satc

The rumours have been swirling for a while now, but up until last weekend it was not confirmed and I was hoping for the best! Alas, my hopes are totally dashed, as we have photos of Miley Cyrus on the set of the second Sex and the City movie. Why, oh why, did the producers agree to this atrocity? Who wants her in the movie??? She is so annoying, and annoying, and also…annoying (just watch her interview with Ellen DeGeneres). Isn’t she super-Christian too? Why would she even want to be in this movie? The movie that speaks so openly (at least Sam does) about sex? The girl that has vowed to not have any until marriage (yeah, ok!). And this also makes me question the demographic that they are targeting with her appearance. Who are Miley’s fans? Tweens and teenagers. Total sellout. Instead of writing intriguing/interesting storylines, they are hiring famewhores to star in their (PG?) film. Way to go!

But going back to the SATC2 Style…Sam’s necklace is amazing! Love it so much! Plus Kim Cattrall does not age! And, in my opinion, the dress looks way better on her than on the 16 year old. But maybe that’s just me, because Miley Cyrus is selling millions of tickets to her concerts. She is a star and a style icon, and an inspiration for the thousands of children everywhere…because, quoting Lainey Gossip, “people suck”.

What I’m Wearing: Leather-ish Pants

pants

Every casual Friday, I end up wearing jeans. Boring! So last Friday I decided to mix it up and wear a denim top instead of bottom. Plus, I needed a reason to wear my new faux leather pants from Forever21! They fit so well, that ever since I got them, I want to wear them all the time! It’s funny, because I tried on leather pants from Danier Leather and Aritzia, as well as a slew of faux leather pants from Zara, Mendocino, H&M, etc. and none of them fit as well as these. Which works out, since the price is definitely right! And to be a complete rebel, I drank Dr Pepper instead of Coke for lunch! Am I dangerous, or what?

I’m wearing: Denim Shirt – H&M; Silk Blouse – Banana Republic; Necklace, Boots, Pants – Forever21; Bag – Miu Miu; Drink – Dr. Pepper

SJP NYC – SJP’s New Perfume

sjp-nyc2

Sarah Jessica Parker is launching another perfume, called SJP NYC, based on her most famous character – Carrie Bradshaw. I do love me some SJP, but I have never been a fan of celebrity fragrances, and feel that I won’t love this one either. Although maybe I should wait until it’s released before I judge. According to WWD, “the scent, a fruity floral by Parker and Firmenich’s Honorine Blanc, has top notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus and wild red strawberries; a heart of gardenia, honeysuckle, mimosa and red rose damascenia, and a drydown of sandalwood, vanilla absolute, rum flavor and creamy musks”. Hmm, floral scents? The only one that I actually love is Flowerbomb by Viktor&Rolf.

The bottle was also designed with Carrie in mind, meant to reflect “whimsy, fun and joie de vivre” of her closet. Do not love. For some reason, the bottle screams “Ed Hardy Reject” to me, and does not at all remind me of Carrie. Sigh. The fragrance will be available at Macy’s stores in February, and will launch worldwide in May (just in time for the release of the second Sex and The City movie). Do you want to smell like Carrie Bradshaw? Are you loving the packaging? Let me know!

Halloween 2009: Popular Costume Predictions

kanye and taylor swift

If you’ve been trying to come up with a fun and current Halloween costume this year, look no further! Geniuses at Newsweek came up with the top Halloween Costume predictions for 2009! Costume suggestions include the Balloon Boy, a few (allegedly) crooked politicos, a couple’s costume of Kanye West and Taylor Swift, Swine Flu (!) and the scariest of all…Lady Gaga! My fave is of course Bruno! If I were a guy, I would totally dress like him for Halloween this year! Not only is he totally fabulous, but imagine all the fun you can have harassing everyone around you?! Achhh ya!

Friday Faux Pas: Ralph Lauren Ads

ralphbloodylaurenagain

Oops, looks like Ralph Lauren did it again! I am not sure what their marketing department is smoking, but it’s obviously clouding their judgement! If the point of these ads is to make people never want to buy Ralph Lauren clothes again, then mission accomplished. Seriously, this is not even a human body anymore…they should’ve just used a Barbie doll for these ads, and it’d look much more realistic than this! I mean, seriously…it’s Ralph Lauren! Couldn’t they hire some professionals to photoshop their ads??? Because frankly, this looks like a joke. Look at the hand holding the clutch. See it? It’s almost the same width as her hip! Is that normal in Ralph’s world? And if they fired 5’10” – 120 lbs model Filippa Hamilton for being too fat, they really need to reasses the company’s values. Who exactly are they trying to clothe? Stick insects? And here I thought that this incident was a freak accident. Apparently not. How many more are out there?

What I’m Wearing: Oui Oui Paris!

oui

Last weekend, le boyfriend and I headed to Buffalo, NY to do some shopping. While he got loads of stuff, for me, the trip was somewhat fruitless. I did get a Laundry dress for Jen’s wedding (maybe), as well as a couple of smaller items, but nothing major. My favorite buy from the entire trip was this $1.50 Forever21 shopping bag!

If you live in Ontario, you know that we pay 5 cents per plastic bag when shopping pretty much anywhere, unless they have paper ones. As this is quite good for the environment, I don’t mind it at all, but in order to shop green (and in style), I am always on the lookout for cute shopping bags to carry with me…just like this one! Not only does it have an Eiffel tower on it, hearts, and a Vespa (my favourite things!), but also a girl with a striped shirt on, holding a camera! Sold! I don’t know why, but smaller things like this bag, sometimes make me happier than larger purchases! Is it because cheaper items come without the guilt?

Halloween 2009: Heidi Klum

hk

It’s a little bizarre, but it seems that Halloween is just around the corner! And while my friends aren’t big fans of the holiday, I really love the idea of dressing up and being someone/something different for one day! All too often, though, I see girls, also trying to be someone different, and by different I mean slutty! What is up with all the sexy nurse, sexy cop, sexy devil, sexy sex-worker outfits? I wonder if people, nowadays, forget that Halloween costumes aren’t supposed to be sexy, but scary! And while wearing something cute and sexy sometimes isn’t that big of a deal, I just feel that every year the outfits get skimpier and tackier! Plus, it’s always the same costumes, rarely anything original…doesn’t it get old? Or is it just me?

Anyway, if there is one person that does Halloween right, year after year, it’s Karl Lagerfeld arch nemesis – Heidi Klum! The supermodel sure knows how to choose costumes that are not only scary, but also super original! Just look at the first pic (above). Her impersonation of Kali is terrifying! All of the scary limbs, skulls, blood…shudder! And her past years’ costumes were all super fun, and most always accompanied by fangs and her awesome hubby Seal, who also seems to indulge in a bit of dress-up fun! Now that’s Halloween Spirit! Can’t wait to see what they come up with this year!!! So if you’re looking for a fun outfit this Halloween, look outside the box, and please, for Heidi’s sake, stay away from all of those cliche sexy-fill-in-the-blank costumes!

hk2

One of the best couple costumes ever! Seal as Eve? Then-preggers Heidi as an apple and a snake? Genius!

What I’m Wearing: BCBG Dresses

bcbg

Ok, so this post has been way overdue, but in my defense, last week was a very busy one! I tried on these dresses at Flare’s 30th anniversary party that was held at BCBG on Bloor St. West in Toronto. The one above was by far my favorite, mostly because of the fit – like it was made for me! I also loved the flowered strap…although le boyfriend would probably call it a snake, or whatever else he’d come up with (he called a shoulder bow from a French Connection dress a parrot!).

The fit of the maxi dress below is also quite nice, but the color is too muted, no? It has that slightly dirty-ish look to me. I guess I’m a fan of defined colors: true blue, red, purple, but not dirty blue, or washed out red. You understand, right? But otherwise, it would’ve been a perfect dress for Jen’s wedding in January. If only it came in a brighter color!

bcbg2

The last dress, especially from the front, is not very evening-appropriate, but the back is so cool (excuse the bikini line), that I had to try it on! The lovely sales lady also picked out the shiny belt for the dress, which I must admit, really did make the dress look better! In the end, I didn’t buy any of them, first of all because I still have plenty of time (couple of months), and second, I must really love the dress in order to spend $500 on one, and unfortunately, as cute as these dresses were, they weren’t “it”. I did, however, buy a dress in Buffalo last weekend. And I think it might just be “the one”! Stay tuned!

Wednesday Candy: Carlos Ponce

carlos

Well, I completely forgot about Wednesday Candy yesterday! I guess this being a short week for Canadians, really did mess up my week a bit. Plus, it just didn’t feel like Wednesday. So today, let’s just pretend that it’s not Thursday, but the day before, ok? Ok!

This week’s Candy is Carlos Ponce. Unless you are a fan of Hispanic musicians, it’s likely that you only know him as the slimy yoga instructor with a hot bod from Couples Retreat. I, on the other hand, have always loved his songs, and was very surprised to see him showing off his comedic chops! I think he was pretty funny in the movie, and his acting didn’t make me cringe the way I cringe when Justin Timberlake acts. So if you are interested, I am sure you can find a few of his songs on iTunes…and believe me, his voice sounds as good as he looks!

Rodarte for Target Preview

rodarte-x-target-look-book-01

It’s finally happening! The first look at the Rodarte for Target collection lookbook is here! Hooray! And so far it looks very promising! I love the ribcage print on this mini dress, but wish it wasn’t sequined. Hopefully the collection also has a similar t-shirt dress, which I would love to rock with some tights and boots. Hotness! But since it hasn’t been officially confirmed that the above image is in fact from the collection’s lookbook, we’ll just have to wait for a confirmation* and more photos. Rodarte for Target collection hits stores December 20th, 2009. I am so excited about this one! Are you?

*Update: Seventeen magazine has more photos of the collection here. So it’s confirmed, the dress is a part of the Rodarte for Target collection! Woohoo!
