Gwyneth’s Clothes

gwyngwyn2

Zoe Tee’s LOVES Gwyneth Paltrow collection hits Matches in stores and online today. Not loving the jersey items, but the studded tank, and the blazer, not hating. But not spectacular either! Thoughts?

Joe Fresh on Queen Street!

joe fresh

Have you heard? Joe Fresh is apparently coming to Queen St. West! I say it’s about time! I’ve always been curious about what Joe Fresh has to offer.

Their ads certainly are cute! And the promise of tiny prices has always appealed. So why not? Location, location, location. I don’t drive, so it’s never convenient for me to go shopping at the Front St location, and the one on St Clair…out of the way! Queen West, however is highly convenient! Too bad it’s slated to open in 2011! 2 more years to go. Hope it’s worth the wait!

Black and Brown

hugh dancy

I’ve been in love with brown dress shoes for men lately. I think they are a classic enough alternative to black shoes, and would go amazingly with grey and blue suits! But black? It’s one of those fashion rules, not to pair black accessories with brown clothes, and vice versa. Is that still true today? I think I don’t actually hate a black suit paired with a pair of dark brown oxfords (Hugh Dancy certainly pulls it off, minus the vest). What do you think?

What I’m Wearing: Summer White

white dress

I don’t wear white often. This year especially…no sun = no tan = no wearing white! I don’t want to look ghostlier than I already do. But after Emma Roberts’ Teen Choice Awards appearance, I just had to dust off my old white Zara frock! Kinda reminds me of the one that she wore. Somewhat.

Channelling Pretty Woman?

boots

Forgive my horrid hair and face. This was me after a full day of sleeping, tanning, swimming, relaxing, gorging on hot-dogs, sleeping some more, slathering sunblock all over my mug and bod, and no makeup. My first great sunny weekend of the year at Sibbald Point!

What you should look at are the boots. I am debating whether to keep these or not. These are Jeffrey Campbells, but looks to me like he was definitely “inspired” by Chloe and Rodarte. It was love at first sight when I saw them at Browns, but now I am having second thoughts. Are these too…hooker-ish? I cannot decide. Leave or love? Help!

Organic Style: Taylor and Victoria

victoria taylor

First of all, I want to apologize to the girls for not remembering which name belongs to which girl. As usual, carrying a million things in my hands, I never have enough time or limbs to write everything down.

With that out of the way, the first thing that caught my eye about these triplet (they also have a brother) sisters is Taylor’s (?) tucked in menswear inspired oversize striped shirt. I just love how effortlessly cool it looks with a pair of light denim shorts. It’s one of my all time favorite looks! Clean and simple. Her bag was pretty amazing also…can’t really see it here though. My bad. What you can see though, is her cool ring that she got in Egypt (lucky girl). Again, I am a sucker for all things turquoise…and for me, this just adds the element of unexpected to her otherwise all-American look.

victoria taylor detail

Victoria’s outfit is equally chic, combining a white cotton peasant blouse with slim-ish cuffed black pants, and of course those awesome ruffled sandals from Zara! Love, love, love! And her grey bag is not too matchy-matchy, yet still is in keeping with the overall tone of the outfit. Absolutely adore the chain necklace with tassels (they are going to be everywhere this Fall)! I think it toughens up her airy top.

Commuter Tie

Commuter Tie

Wondering what to get for a guy that has it all? How about this commuter tie? Thomas Pink’s amazing color palettes are second to only Paul Smith, and the IPod pouch on the under-side of the tie takes this accessory to another level! So clever and convenient – this is not your typical run of the mill boring tie! This item is no longer a limited edition piece, and will be available in stores and online this September! Love it!

Topshop – Marianne

topshop marianne8

Recently, I got a faux fur vest from H&M, thinking that I’d pair it with some shredded skinny jeans, and my brown suede fringe boots. Boho love inspired! A/W 2009 Marianne collection for Topshop is all that, and much more! Love the colors, the sequins, the faux furs, and over the knee boots! Oh so wish that we had a store in Toronto, but alas, would have to order online…or search for an equivalent look at Zara or H&M. Don’t you just love the wild child Marianne Faithfull’s 60s style?! I certainly do!

Travel: Marriott in Muskoka

1muskoka

Ahh, summer! I really wish we had a better one, but you gotta take what you’re given and squeeze every last drop out of it.

I love water! I love swimming and chillaxing on the beach, so living in Ontario is quite cool, since we’re surrounded by so many lakes! The only glitch is, if like me, you don’t have a cottage, it gets quite tough to find nice accommodations in Muskoka. Last time we were planning a trip North, I’ve spent hours (literally) searching for a nice place to stay. There are tons of cottages for rent, but not all of them look nice, and most of them will cost you an arm and a leg. B&Bs could work too, but are hit and miss, unless you stay at highly recommended ones, which usually book up way ahead of time. So what to do?

Stay at the Marriott! Seriously, it was cheaper than a B&B and you get your own bathroom, kitchen, King bed, balcony, complimentary breakfast and parking, and other amenities, like a hot tub and a swimming pool! Residence Inn Gravenhurst Muskoka Wharf opened in 2009, and is brand spanking new! The rooms are impeccable, and you can cook inside if you choose to (they even have pots and pans!). Most rooms also come with a pullout couch, which is super convenient if you’re staying with kids or friends. The hotel is well-situated, right at the Muskoka Wharf, literally a 5-minute walk to the marina. The room only cost us $149 per night (including breakfast!). I really loved everything about this hotel, and would definitely go back!

And if you’re wondering if this is a paid plug, it is not! Just a friendly, and hopefully helpful tip for those that are planning a Muskoka trip soon.

Models, Naturally

amber

The models in this Peter Lindbergh Harper’s Bazaar photo-shoot definitely look fantastic without makeup. Bazaar never claimed that there was no retouching to these photos, just “minimal” retouching. So do you buy it? Is this what Amber Valetta looks like in the morning? If so, then we all have something to aspire to.
